ANYONE FOR A DESIGNER TURKEY?

By Notification No.69 Turkey has announced that, from 1 January 2005, that country will be bound by the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Deposit of Industrial Designs (Geneva Act).

The IPKat congratulates Turkey on taking yet another step towards the provision of such excellent legal conditions for the protection and exploitation of intellectual property. However, he notes that at present only 40 states are party to Hague, which provides an easier way to obtain design registration in a multiplicity of countries via a single application. Countries missing from the list, for whatever reason, include the United States, Canada, the whole of South America, Japan, China, India and the Russian Federation. Seems like WIPO should be gearing itself up for a charm offensive in the hope of gaining new adherents.

Comments will not be allowed if the contravene the IPKat policy that readers' comments should not be obscene or defamatory; they should not consist of ad hominem attacks on members of the blog team or other comment-posters and they should make a constructive contribution to the discussion of the post on which they purport to comment.

It is also the IPKat policy that comments should not be made completely anonymously, and users should use a consistent name or pseudonym (which should not itself be defamatory or obscene, or that of another real person), either in the "identity" field, or at the beginning of the comment. Current practice is to, however, allow a limited number of comments that contravene this policy, provided that the comment has a high degree of relevance and the comment chain does not become too difficult to follow.
