VICTORY FOR AMERICAN BUDWEISER IN ITALY

Hot on the heels of an opposite ruling by the Czech court, a court in Rome has ruled that the rights in the Budweiser name should go to the US brewer, Anheuser-Busch. The Italian court has ruled that the Czech brewer’s two "Budweiser Budbrau" trade marks and one "Budweiser Budvar" trade mark should be cancelled. Budejovicky Budvar can still appeal against the court’s decision.

The IPKat selflessly conducts a spot of empirical research for the benefit of his readers…

The IPKat hates to think what the patchwork of contrary decisions concerning the two companies’ trade marks must do for the brewers’ European marketing strategies. If anyone has access to the text of the Italian court’s decision, the IPKat would love to know about it.
