The IPKat’s Patent of the Month for October is the winner of the 2005 IgNoble Prize for medicine. Gregg Miller’s “Surgical method and apparatus for implantation of a testicular prosthetic device” is protected by a US patent. Neuticles (as the subject-matter of this invention are known) allows a neutered dog, cat or horse to “ retain his natural look, self esteem and aids in the trauma associated with neutering”. Invented after Miller realised that his bloodhound, Buck, would be disfigured after neutering, the implants are available in a variety of sizes and degrees of firmness.
